Policy and Strategy

The Nitto ATP Finals represent the ATP’s flagship event and a cornerstone of the ATP Serves sustainability strategy. Our goal is to inspire through tennis, both on and off the court, by making a tangible contribution beyond sport itself — and this event is a clear example of that. For further details, the official ESG Report for the 2024 edition is available. It provides an in-depth overview of the environmental, social, and governance initiatives connected to the Nitto ATP Finals. The document can be downloaded here:

Projects

ATP, Nitto, and the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation (FITP) have joined forces to launch the Nitto ATP Finals Torino Green Project, an environmental sustainability initiative in Turin, the host city of the tournament.

Thanks to a generous donation from Nitto, the City of Turin planted a total of 50 trees near the Inalpi Arena and installed green roofs at four bus stops.

In 2024, the group continued to expand the initiative with the installation of the Green Wall in the Fan Village — a symbolic plant wall developed by Nitto and ATP/FITP. After the tournament, the Green Wall was relocated within the city of Turin as part of the Nature Based Solution greening project, helping to reduce CO₂ emissions and improve air quality. In the months and years to come, the wall will continue to grow and flourish, becoming a symbol of the partner’s commitment to sustainability.

For 2025, the project continues with the Green Art Wall — a mural promoting sustainability, created with special Airlite paints capable of purifying the air and concretely improving the surrounding environment.

As the title partner of the event, Nitto places ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles at the core of its management strategy and is committed to addressing social challenges while creating economic value. Through its sponsorship of the Nitto ATP Finals, the company actively supports initiatives related to environmental sustainability.

Biodegradable Napkins

Within the Nitto ATP Finals Torino Green Project, Nitto donated 6,000 paper napkins in 2023, 20,000 in 2024, and will donate 40,000 in 2025. The napkins, made from Nitto’s patented plastic-free compostable material (CAC* non-woven fabric), will be used in the Nitto VIP Suite and the Fan Village Food Court during the tournament, providing spectators with a more sustainable experience.

SmaGo Recycling Bins

These IoT-based recycling containers, supplied by Nitto since 2021, are particularly efficient in high-traffic areas. They are powered by solar panels mounted on the top of the bins and use advanced technology to detect how full they are. When full, the compactor compresses the contents, allowing the bins to store five to six times more waste than containers of the same size.

Because they are solar-powered and compact waste, the frequency of truck collections is reduced, making the bins more sustainable.

Electrified Tournament Vehicle Fleet

Lexus is a pioneer in electrification within the premium automotive sector, developing a comprehensive vision for sustainable mobility called Lexus Electrified. The brand’s full electrified portfolio includes Self-Charging Hybrid, Plug-In Hybrid, and All-Electric models.

As the official automotive partner of the Nitto ATP Finals, Lexus promotes the use of these models in line with ATP Serves’ and UN Sports for Climate Action’s climate ambitions, which include a net-zero emissions target by 2040.

Lexus has outlined its strategy for a new generation of fully electric vehicles, applying design principles and technologies that will make Lexus a fully electric luxury brand globally by 2035 — and even earlier in Europe, by 2030, if market conditions allow.

ESG Framework and Carbon Footprint Calculation

Starting in 2024, FITP established a partnership with Enovation Consulting, a firm specializing in sports sustainability and strategic management, to support the development of a robust ESG framework, strengthened by the calculation of the event’s ecological footprint. This was measured for the first time in 2024 and serves as a baseline to monitor emissions and reduce environmental impact year after year.
For the 2025 edition, the event’s ESG Report will once again be published, documenting all sustainability efforts carried out during the tournament.
The framework covers the Environmental, Social, and Governance pillars, with 17 areas of action and over 60 planned activities for 2025. It aligns with international best practices in sports, ATP’s sustainability strategy, and global standards for sustainable events.
