Andrey Rublev first qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals in 2020, going 1-2 in round robin play at The O2 in London.

The Russian won the eighth ATP Tour title of his career in March 2021 at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam (d. Fucsovics). He also went 4-0 in singles play to help Team Russia to capture the ATP Cup crown and finished as runner-up at two ATP Masters 1000 tournaments — the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters (l. to Tsitsipas) and the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati (l. to Zverev) — plus one ATP 500 event at the Noventi Open in Halle (l. to Humbert). Rublev broke into the Top 5 of the FedEx ATP Rankings in September 2021.
