Tiafoe qualifies for Nitto ATP Finals for first time
Frances Tiafoe will make his debut at the Nitto ATP Finals.
The 28-year-old is the seventh player to qualify for the season finale, which will take place in Turin from 15-22 November. The American clinched his spot on Friday when Ben Shelton defeated Tommy Paul at the Rolex Paris Masters.
Only one singles spot remains at Inalpi Arena. Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Ben Shelton, Medvedev, Flavio Cobolli and Arthur Fils have qualified. Tiafoe, Cobolli and Fils are all first-time qualifiers.
If Taylor Fritz defeats Alcaraz in the Paris quarter-finals, he will qualify for Turin. If not, Rafael Jodar will make his debut.
Tiafoe has enjoyed not only a resurgent season, but the best of his career. He won the title in Halle and also made finals in Cincinnati and Acapulco.
The Maryland native this year reached his second ATP Masters 1000 final, and both of them have come in Cincinnati in the past three years (2024 and 2026). Tiafoe earned three Top-15 wins at the event, where he defeated Learner Tien, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Lorenzo Musetti.
New York proved a happy hunting ground again for the home favourite, who reached the US Open semi-finals for the third time. Tiafoe upset 2021 champion and fellow Turin qualifier Daniil Medvedev en route to the last four.
It is the second consecutive year in which two Americans have qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals after Shelton and Fritz last year. Before that, it had not happened since Andy Roddick and James Blake qualified in 2006.
