Cobolli, chasing Nitto ATP Finals debut, consolidates in Live Race with Wimbledon run
Can Flavio Cobolli stay the course in his bid to secure a debut appearance on home soil at the Nitto ATP Finals?
The 24-year-old Italian certainly did his chances no harm at Wimbledon, where he reached the quarter-finals to continue his impressive year at Grand Slam level. Having also reached the championship match at Roland Garros in June, Cobolli remains well positioned for a top-eight finish in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin.
Cobolli, who after a tough beginning to the season kick-started his 2026 successes in February by winning an ATP 500 title in Acapulco, is fourth in the Live Race behind only the three men to lift major titles so far this year: Jannik Sinner (Wimbledon), Alexander Zverev (Roland Garros) and Carlos Alcaraz (Australian Open).
The Italian, who at Wimbledon defeated Karen Khachanov in a five-set battle and downed his fellow Top-10 star Alex de MInaur before falling to surging British wild card Arthur Fery, is hoping to become the second home favourite to qualify for this year’s Nitto ATP Finals after Sinner sealed his berth by reaching the Wimbledon final. The prestigious season finale will be held at Turin’s Inalpi Arena from 15-22 November.
Currently 630 points behind third-placed Alcaraz, Cobolli has the chance to close that gap further this week when he competes as the top seed at the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag.

Having already sealed his Turin spot by defeating Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon semi-finals, Sinner went on to defeat Zverev to successfully defend his title at the grass major. With his championship-match victory Sunday on Centre Court, Sinner extended his Live Race lead ahead of the second-placed German to 1,410 points. The 24-year-old Sinner is this year aiming to finish as ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by PIF for the second time.
The record seven-time Nitto ATP Finals champion Djokovic has also boosted his chances of qualifying for the season finale for what would be a record 19th time. The 39-year-old, who is currently tied with Roger Federer for the record of 18 qualifications, reached his second major semi-final of the year at The All England Club and is up to sixth in the Live Race, surging from 16th ahead of the tournament.
The man Djokovic defeated in the longest Wimbledon quarter-final in history, Felix Auger-Aliassime, is up to seventh from 11th. Despite his third-round exit at SW19, Daniil Medvedev remains just ahead of Djokovic and Auger-Aliassime in fifth place.
After Cobolli, the next highest-placed player in ATP 250 action this week is Casper Ruud. The 2022 Nitto ATP Finals runner-up is the second seed at the EFG Swiss Open Gstaad. Currently 15th in the Live Race, the Norwegian would rise to 12th if he can win the Swiss Alpine clay event for a third time.
